I am very confused. I choose this plugin so that I would not have to go through the craziness of figuring out how to set up a Letsencrypt SSL and the plugin did not even give me a new SSL.

When I set this up, it did not tell me anywhere that I needed and SSL nor how to upload one. But it did say activate SSL, which to me means it gave me one.

If it does not supply the SSL, I do not understand what the plugin actually does and why I would need it.

Can someone please help me? If I have to add my own SSL, I need to FTP it if I want to use Letsencrypt and I cannot find the instructions to do that. This says my certificate expired, but I deleted it. I don’t know why it is still showing up. I am using namecheap.

This is what showed up on the debug page.:

Developers of these plugins need to understand that there are many of us who are learning WordPress, so we cannot make assumptions about things we do not know. Giving full instructions would save us months of frustration.

    Hi @tamierp,

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this. Really Simple SSL is not an SSL certificate itself, but a plugin to handle all configuration and optimization for SSL for you.

We try in several ways to help with this. If the plugin does not detect a valid certificate, it should tell you, and forward you to instructions how to do this.

Additionally, the first step in our installation instructions is: “Get an SSL certificate”

To install an SSL certificate, please read this article:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/installing-an-ssl-certificate/

    Hope this helps.
