I’m having an issue when any customer checks out using a gift card (I have plugin Woo Smart Coupons to generate store credits).

My WooCommerce calculates the total properly (removing the gift card total after sales tax) but when it goes to Square, it does all sorts of “adjustments” and charges my customer the wrong amount!

I don’t have my products synced to Square (because that’s a nightmare) so it should only ever take the total from Woo and charge it. This is really weird.

As an example: Customer bought item for $80 plus $12 s&h. Subtotal $92. Total after taxes $103.96. They used a $50 gift card and paid the $53.96 balance through square.

Square transaction shows: $80 item, $12 shipping, then +12.89 “adjustment” -$64.24 “adjustment”, for a subtotal of $46.05 and total $56.99 after taxes.

What are these adjustments? Why can’t it just charge the proper amount from WooCommerce? I’ve emailed support three times with no response AND called support only to have them put me on hold for 20 minutes then disconnect me.

Has anybody else had this issue?

    Hi @andreashelley ,

The behaviour you’ve described seems specific to when WooCommerce Smart Coupons is used. We’d be happy to troubleshoot this.

WooCommerce Smart Coupons is our premium extensions supported directly via WooCommerce.com.

Please contact us at WooCommerce.com > My Account > Tickets from the account through which Smart Coupons was purchased.

Please include a link to this forum thread, so that we can keep track of what’s already been done.

We will be able to help you further there.

The problem seems to be from how WooCommerce Square plugin passes information to Square.

If I look back at my orders, sometime in the first week of July, my transactions switched from just showing “custom amount” from WooCommerce to now showing item detail — which causes the calculation issues with gift cards.

I updated my WooCommerce Square plugin that week.

Whatever update was made, that seems to be where the issue is.

Is there a way to switch it back to handling WooCommerce transactions just as custom amounts always?

    Hi @andreashelley ,

Based on Square changelog, I’m not seeing any change related to how item amount is passed to Square.

I have checked Square with Simple products on our test store, and it works as expected. Since your site is using Gift Certificates through Smart Coupons, we can check that setup as well, but we provide support for Smart Coupons directly on WooCommerce.com.

Please contact us at WooCommerce.com > My Account > Tickets from the account through which Smart Coupons was purchased.
