    I know how frustrating it can be when checkout suddenly breaks, especially when everything else seems to be working fine. Let’s troubleshoot this together.

    I ran a test on my end and was able to reproduce the same error during checkout. See screenshot: https://snipboard.io/7FmW9n.jpg. I also noticed an error in the console:

    POST https://dolcemia.8wavescreative.com/wp-json/wc/store/v1/checkout?_locale=site 400 (Bad Request)
    

    The 400 Bad Request response indicates that WooCommerce’s Store API is receiving a malformed or incomplete payload during checkout. That’s likely what’s triggering the “Something went wrong” message.

    Some quick checks:

    • Are you the owner of the Square account? (Only owners can connect to WooCommerce)
    • Do your products have SKUs set in both WooCommerce and Square? I checked but couldn’t find one.
    • Is your Square location properly configured in the plugin settings?

    To help narrow down the cause:

    1. Switch to a default theme like Storefront and disable all plugins except WooCommerce and Square. Then test checkout again to rule out conflicts: https://woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/.
    2. Review Square plugin settings under WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Square to ensure credentials and sync settings are correct.
    3. Clear WooCommerce caches and transients via WooCommerce → Status → Tools, especially if you’ve recently updated plugins.
    4. Enable logging for Square under WooCommerce → Status → Logs, then look for any entries related to the failed checkout attempt.

    If it keeps happening, please share your System Status Report, that’ll also shed more light. You can generate that via WooCommerce → Status → Get system report, then paste it in Pastebin or Gist and link it here.

      –Yes gives me the same error
    • Did you disable all plugins except WooCommerce and Square before testing checkout again?
      — I don’t have much plugins, just AVAD builder an core and those are need to show any page.
    • Is the correct Square location selected in your plugin settings under WooCommerce → Payments → Square?
      –Yes
    • Are SKUs set for your products in both WooCommerce and Square?

    –Not sure about that, as I don’t have access to squre account I can ask for that from client.

    • Have you cleared WooCommerce transients and sessions via WooCommerce → Status → Tools?

    • Is logging enabled for Square, and if so, are there any relevant entries in the logs related to the failed checkout?

    I think the client is using Square just for payment processing, so I don’t think that SKU issue should matter.

    Thank you for providing more information about the issue. I understand you only have a few plugins active. For testing purposes, could you please deactivate those plugins as well, then try placing an order to see if that works for you?

    Also, could you please confirm the following:

    1. Currency settings – Square and WooCommerce must be set to the same currency to use the gateway. You can set your WooCommerce store currency from WooCommerce > Settings > General. Your Square location currency is based on the country selected when creating your Square account.
    2. Supported countries – Square can only accept transactions from the following countries: US, CA, UK, AU, IE, ES, FR, and JP. If your shop base address is in a different country, you won’t be able to process transactions with Square. You can view and modify your shop location from WooCommerce > Settings > General.
    3. Is your transaction type set to “Authorization – Authorizations will not display in the Square “Transactions” list until you capture the charge within WooCommerce.

    Lastly, could you please share the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs? Once we have more information, we’ll be able to assist you further.

    Thanks for sharing those logs. We don’t request for login credentials as it’s public and goes against the forum guidelines.

    From the logs, your store is successfully connecting to Square and retrieving location data, so the integration itself is active. However, the key issue seems to be this line:

    handle_payment_response failed in 0ms with 0.00KB of memory usage

    Combined with the 400 Bad Request error from the console, it points to a failure in how the checkout API request is being handled, specifically during the payment response phase.

    To dig deeper, here’s what I recommend:

    • Also look for any “fatal-errors” or “debug” logs from around the same time as your failed checkout attempts. Running another test would also suffice.

    Some common causes for this kind of issue include:

    • Site optimization plugins interfering with Square’s JavaScript. Try temporarily disabling any caching, minification, or performance method you might have (both server, CDN and plugin)
    • Switch to Storefront to test for theme conflicts. That would tell us if your theme doesn’t fully support WooCommerce’s checkout blocks.

    Let me know what you find after these checks. We’re getting closer to pinpointing the cause.

    OK so remove the server from the doubt I just copied the site to another server on siteground.

    https://dolcemia.wprodevs.com/ theme is storefront but still the same issue.

    @jitin880426 To help us dig deeper, could you please do the following:

    • Share a screenshot of your WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Square configuration so we can review the current setup.
    • On your new site (https://dolcemia.wprodevs.com), enable Sandbox mode and Debug mode in the Square plugin settings.
    • Run a test transaction using Sandbox mode.
    • After testing, go to WooCommerce → Status → Logs, select the relevant Square log from the dropdown, and send us the contents.

    This will give us a clearer picture of what’s happening during the payment process. Looking forward to your update!
