One further question.. Is it possible to assign rules based on the order details rather than product? eg: if shipping country = XX then split.

Yes, i can consider it as a new feature for upcoming versions.
Is it possible to remove the line item that is being split from the original order?
I have tried this on experimental basis in a different/new plugin. Can you please try “WC Order Split” and let me know if that works for you?

It’s another feature request, i can think about it. I cannot say yes, until i discuss it in details with you. That you are expecting new rules or same rules but trigger should be based on order details.

I do think my suggestions RE statuses and order based rules might be good for the plugin.
My use case is where a client wishes to apply rules based on the destination country, but I would imagine order based rules would be a powerful feature for lots of users.
Assigning a different status can help to identify at a glance when an order is a split order and treat it differently.
