Support » Plugin: GamiPress » Spending points on blog posts?

  • Resolved postmillennial

Hey there, I run a website that encourages user submitted content – One idea to cultivate natural engagement would be if users were able to spend their karma points on content like blog posts. Is that possible with Gamipress? I think it’d be a great tool for user submitted content websites. I’ve been looking at other rating tools and they are pretty bland. Please let me know if this is possible with GP! Thanks, God bless.

  • PS. To clarify — I meant that it would be good if users can use points to rate content. I know there’s an extension with WP Postratings, but users can’t re-cast their vote on there which I think is a big drawback. I think a good gamification/content rating duo can be a really cool combination. And more support for Ultimate Member, if possible. Thanks, I think you have a great plugin.

    Hi @postmillennial

On GamiPress you have the ability to automatically deduct points to any user for specific events (like publish a post) thanks to the points deducts feature and this points deducts supports all built-in events as well as all events added through other GamiPress add-ons

For sure, an extra feature you are looking for is to don’t allow users without a specific points amount to submit a post, that’s something that is not possible yet without a custom development to add this extra check

Also, you will need to add this check in the way your users are submitted their content, for example, are they submitting post through WordPress backend or through another plugin to enable frontend submissions?

About the WP PostRatings integration, If you are referring to restrict rates, here happens the same, you can use the GamiPress points deducts to reduce the user’s points but you will need a custom development to add an extra check to prevent them continue rating posts until get a minimum amount of points

And about Ultimate Member integration, is already in our roadmap, and we will try to add it as soon as posible

    Best regards

Thanks for the great reply! Currently I have “Darma” points which I distribute like this

Logging in (1 Darma per day)
Commenting on other people’s posts (1 Darma per comment)
Receiving a comment (1 Darma per comment)
Publishing a new article (1 Darma per post)

The rating option would’ve just meant that to rate, an author needs to spend a point — this means that authors have to think twice before rating, which might encourage less trolling. I don’t want to use WP Post Ratings because users can’t vote twice on something, which is a huge drawback. You make a good point — “but you will need a custom development to add an extra check to prevent them continue rating posts until get a minimum amount of points.” Unfortunately that is beyond my understanding. In any case this is not 100% needed, it would just be a nice way to encourage honest rating.

Good to hear about Ultimate Member integration! It’d be Fantastic if user points showed up on Ultimate Member and in things like Social Activity (extension in Ultimate member).
