    Hi there,

I am using the relevanssi_do_query function as I was advised here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/search-keyword-in-get_posts/

However, the customers complain about a slow search experience. What can be done in order to speed it up?

Try a search for “balloon”, “jul” (christmas) or “lys” (candle) which are very popular search terms on the site.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.
    Best Regards,
    Peter

A couple of things come to mind:

    – You’re not using excerpts, so make sure Relevanssi is not set to create excerpts. Creating excerpts is often the slowest part of the search, so you don’t want to spend any extra time on that.

    – You’re showing LOTS of results. Would less than 200 results per page be enough? Try 50 and see if that’s any faster?

    – I noticed the actual search is faster than the search results page is. The search for “ballon” took 4.6 seconds, but it took 9.3 seconds before anything shows up on the page. Loading all the product images gets stalled for several seconds, slowing down the page. Apparently, everything must be loaded before anything is displayed. That also slows down the search for many, many seconds. I’m pretty sure showing fewer results would help here as well.

Relevanssi has its limits. It’s not unusual for Relevanssi requests to take a few seconds, so if you’re looking for something that’s blink-of-an-eye fast, you need more powerful search, something like Algolia.
