I purchased an insanely cheap domain through a Network Solutions deal at the very end of 2018. Domain and webhosting for like $12 for the year. But it was sooooo slow. I tried a bunch of optimizations, but thought I had just signed on for a cheap, slow server.
Then I installed Hummingbird, worked my way through all the various settings and options (which were pretty much a snap), and suddenly my page load load time had been cut down to a fraction of what it had been. I had already activated and used Smush, which helped a little, but man, did Hummingbird make all the difference.
(Side note: on a site hosted by WPEngine ( <3 ), Hummingbird made less of a difference because of all the optimizations already in place, but it STILL helped. Just know, your mileage may vary depending on where you’re coming from.)
