Specify the plugin version on the download button

Can you specify the plugin version on the download button please? My teamlead afraid of the hypothetical situation when some plugins may become obsolete on specific WordPress versions or/and in case of abandonment by their developers. So, I’m sure that 5.2.2 version is fine and dandy, but what if one day the new release will just break?

I have no control over the button on the WordPress download page. You will need to request to wordpress.org for that.

Well, it says that you can specify which exact version should WordPress use

by specifying the Stable Tag field in your trunk directory’s readme.txt file

I thought you were referring to the text on the button. Sure, setting the tag will change the filename of the file download by clicking the button. The same version will be downloaded regardless. I’m not sure how it helps your situation.

Here’s CF7, it gives me the link to a specific 5.5.4 version
There’s your plugin, it gives me just a link to plugin, no version

I totally understand that WordPress SVN parse that link to some internal path, but anyway, isn’t there any chance to download, say, Redirection v5.2.1 or v5.1.0 by direct links?

Sure, I understand that. The only difference is in the filename though? The version downloaded will be the same. I’m not sure how this will help prevent a problem with the plugin or it being abandoned.

You can download any version anyway. For example: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/redirection.5.2.1.zip

Wait a second, so, you’re just renaming the files then? And keep old versions with different names? Then I’m sorry, I need to learn how to develop WP-plugins then 🙂

I’m not renaming anything. It’s just how wordpress.org works.
