special characters accent arent import correctly

Hi,
Since the last update, special characters accent are’nt appears correctly when importing.

“Navi à un petit né je ne sé pà s is a good aviator and navigator”
will become
“Navi Ã un petit nÃ© je ne sÃ© pÃ s is a good aviator and navigator”

Can you tell me why and how can i correct the importation?
I have few hundred word to import…

And i can’t use “html code” beacause when i do that, the word with the accent is no longer found in the search engine

Hi @eurekaindustries,

that’s a pickle. I don’t have a clear answer for that. Can you email me the csv file you are trying to import?

Is this since release 1.14, or didn’t it work earlier?

It’s since 1.14 yes.
Few weeks ago, i imported the file without any problem

@eurekaindustries on another note, we have discussed translations a while back in https://wordpress.org/support/topic/make-column-and-add-photo/

You were granted the approval rights for French. If you have some time, would you consider translating a few strings on https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/name-directory/stable/fr/default/?

The language pack for French is being generated and distributed when there is 95% coverage. Currently, we have 89%, so we are almost there! It would be really cool, so other people can use it in French too.

are you sure it is since v1.14? I did not seem to have made a change in the code regarding this. I tested it on multiple versions, but that did not seem to matter.

I do see what you mean however. Can you tell me the exact same before-version please?

Hello,
I went back to version 1.12: the import works well.
I just went back to 1.14: all characters with accents appear wrong (example: éàè becomes Ã©Ã Ã¨)

it is with the CSV below I have just tested.

When you import this file, everything is okay for you?

Yes, I see a difference in 1.12! Just have to test what I would revert if I changed the code back again.

Hi @eurekaindustries, I just released it 🙂 It also features an HTML editor (which you can enable in General settings).
