Just a note for every one tuning in (not that our respectable members would consider this), but “slap back hard enough” does not mean, “organize a DoS attack”. Kitten, thanks for providing that info. I’ve sent an email.

“The problem with DoS attacks is that most spammers run though a proxy server. Whether that’s an anonymous proxy server or a proxy server run by a major ISP, if you DoS an individual whom you assume is a spammer, you will knock out the entire proxy server, disabling several users or possibly an entire ISP. And, if you knock out an ISP, you will be sued.
Other than that, it’s just plain wrong too.” ~ Me

“Not to mention illegal and punishable under criminal law.” ~ TechGnome

“DoS attacks aren’t a solution, and any discussion of them shouldn’t take place here.” ~ Podz

Complain through the appropriate channels is all anybody is suggesting. That’s why an abuse email address was supplied.

I know, I just don’t want anyone to infirm anything. You know how these things go around here. There’s always someone with a flame up their rear.

^^ And there is always someone who is acting like that is what people are suggesting when they are annoyed with something.

The world is NOT about Dos attacks etc… only someone who cannot get their head out of geekdom would think of that as the way to handle something.

Back here in the real world, we know that the old fashioned methods of snipe hunting and capture followed by a good long flogging and ending with a messy drawn and quartering is the only real way to handle spammers. ;o)

If someone can put together a proforma for emailing with regard to spam, Im sure that would do two things:
    – increase the complaint rate as people will be more comfortable with the process
    – increase the effectiveness as the mail would be polite, to the point and would contain all the relevant information.

Anyone care to create a good “fill in the blanks” form ?
