I would love to pay for the pro version or even this version of USP IF it worked for my sites. I have even password-protected the registration page and chosen a challenge question that should confound a bot—- but I continue to get about 1 reg an hour same as before using plugin. No reg is submitting more than an email & name.

So is this solvable? am I not doing something? tried this on 2 more of my other sites with different themes-(same host: 1and1)- same result

    many thanks, davidp

  • Sorry, but why spam would be caused by this plugin ?

This plugin is hardly spammed even without challenge question or captcha.

I even use it as contact form.

This is the best plugin that I have found on wordpress !

    Hi davidp,

Glad to help. The plugin uses WP nonces and several other methods to prevent spam. Then if you are using either of the captcha methods and a password-protected page, the only spam that should make it through is manually submitted, human spam.

One thing I would recommend is using the Google reCAPTCHA field instead of the challenge question. It is known to be more effective than a static question/answer field.

I also will re-test the plugin and see if there is anything else that can be added to further improve the existing anti-spam functionality.

    Thank you for the feedback.

Many thanks for the replies- I do NOT think the plugin is the cause of any spam. I am amazed at how effectively these spam registrations get around any anti-bot tools. the common factor is all 3 different themes-sites are hosted by the same service….or there are a lot of humans doing ‘bot’ work–what a waste of everyone’s time.

Let me ask this, are the sites on a shared server?
