First off, thanks for the plugin! It's been great until just the last few days. Now, I'm getting spam slipping by.

GASP is 1.5.2 and I've tried changing the checkbox name and enabling the secret key without any effect.

I do see the checkbox if I'm logged out and a quick test of normal form submission does require the checkbox to be ticked.

Apparently, there is some easy way around GASP the robots are using.

Server is running under nginx, in case that matters.

Here's a post you can check test against:

Same here. Robots have definitely cracked GASP making it completely ineffective at this point.

I agree. I've stuck with it for several months hoping for a fix but it seems that's not to be. Shame.

I updated to the latest version and then started getting tons of spam. I was able to revert to my older version of the plugin and the spam has stopped.

    Same here.
    What is a good alternative?

I don't know if this helps but the top of this page says to change the "secret key": http://growmap.com/growmap-anti-spambot-plugin/

But it does not say it is good up to WP 3.9.1 so I'd like to know an alternative also

Growmap stopped all automated spam until several weeks ago. Ineffective since then.

Before trying it for the first time I was suspicious of the notion that a tickbox which can be seen and ticked by a user can not be effectively ticked automatically.

I wonder whether an enhancement to Growmap is possible to restore its effectiveness.

I despise the practice of attempting to analyse content to determine whether any comment or email is spam.

Any suggestions for alternative spam comment blockers that do not do that but don't make user experience inconvenient or difficult and are still fully effective?
