[resolved] Spam floods & Akismet - Am I alone? (8 posts)

Just recently (today and last night) I have been receiving hundreds of spam messages an hour, despite the face that I have been using Akismet since I first installed WordPress over two years ago.

I run two blogs with WordPress. One runs 2.3.2. The other still runs a version of 2.1 because the theme version I use is not compatible with 2.3 and I have not yet upgraded. Both are being affected by this problem.

Is there something happening with Akismet that I don't know about? I haven't upgraded that plugin for some time. Could that be the problem?

It might... With the new versions of WP very often you get a newer version of the plugin, too. However, since we are always told not to delete our wp-content folder during the upgrade - sometimes people are way behind with their Akismet version(s).

OK, now I've made sure that I'm running the latest version of Akismet and it's made no difference whatsoever. Any recommendations for an alternative/additional spam blocker that's compatible with WordPress 2.3?

I've just worked out that my host has been moving to a new server over the past few days and that Akismet hasn't been able to verify my API key as a result. That's why all of a sudden the spam started to flood in.

I've installed SpamKarma in the meantime and am now very happy.

Thanks for the comments, all. This is now resolved.

Great! Glad to hear it was so simple.
