spam comments still in database?

  • I am using 1.5b 2005-1-15. I find the comments noted as spam are not listed in awaiting moderation, but they are still in database, not stopped.

Is it a bug, is it fixed in later versions?

  • I use Kitten’s Retrospaminator to go back through all my comments and look for the nasties that I missed or didn’t know about. It moves everything into moderation. However, I don’t know if it works on 1.5 or not.

After upgrade to 1.5, I still have this problem. I am the only one?

Nope, not the only one at all. I don’t understand what the intended processing is, because I certainly don’t want my database space taken up by these comments, even if they’re marked as spam.

I’ve noticed the same thing with automatically deleted comments remaining in the database. The bug has been submitted: http://mosquito.wordpress.org/view.php?id=936

My understanding is that this is in anticipation of some spam-handling features and it will be dealt with in the near future.

It’s not just automatically deleted spam comments that stay in the database but also those which go into comment moderation and are manually deleted there.

well, gee, thats a bit of a pest. ive been getting the usual gambling spam but today have noticed that the sex-related spam is starting to wind up as well.

Hello, any news about this problem? I’m under a heavy spam attack and spam messages still appears on database (and on recent comments) even though Spam Karma detects fine all of them.

    Any fix to this issue?

    Thank You

If you have the latest version of Spam Karma (v1.20), it will place the deleted comments in the database marked as [spam], similar to the function of the “Comment Blacklist”. “This is in anticipation of some spam-handling features and it will be dealt with in the near future.” This is not a bug, it is a “feature”. If you’d like, Spam Nuker can help you delete (or recover) any comment marked as [spam].
