Spam Comments / Spam Registration

    Hi there,

    My site is having a huge problem with spam. Namely, (1) spam comments, and (2) spam registration.

    I am running bbpress and buddypress along with a static home page where anyone can leave a comment. It is also a site where you can register for a user account.
    I have running the plugin “Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin” and in the settings it says it has stopped 41303 spammer since but I still get the spam comments and spam user registration.

    Currently, I mark the comments as invisible until I approve and I just delete the spam users who register accounts BUT my site is going to launch next month and I really need to get rid/prevent as best I can these spam comments and user registration.

    Any input/ suggestions highly appreciated.

    This is a tough one and something that a lot of folks have to deal with. I’d recommend looking into Akismet for spam comments and possibly CloudFlare to also help you stop these attacks and user registrations before they get to you.

    I’d also take a look at Limit Login Attempts, because I’d guess there are a lot of bots trying to hack into your site as well.
