# Spam comment attack!

 * I got an email from my web host that my WordPress website was under brute force
   login and comment spam attack, which was using a lot of server resources and 
   causing problems, and large volume of comments stored in the database would affect
   the performance of my website dramatically.
 * For security reasons, my web host blocked access to wp-login.php by editing the.
   htaccess file. However they gave me access to the login page when I provided 
   my IP address.
 * I hadn’t noticed that the site was under a spam attack. If anything gets a lot
   of spam, it is my datinginfoforsingles site, which gets over 1,000 attempted 
   spam comments a week (nearly all of which are blocked by Akismet).
 * I have Akismet on my other site too. However, they advised that I should also
   add captcha code to comment forms there. So I was wondering what is a good captcha
   plugin to use?

 * To be honest, captchas are pretty useless. Try [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/)
   instead.
