Hey @kimijye – let me take a look at those 🙂
1/ align all elements so they’re aligned.
Something that will help with aligning content in the page (particularly like the image on the homepage) would be to place the Image block (and any others) inside a Group Block – which will give you some additional alignment options.
https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/group-block/#converting-multiple-blocks-to-a-group-block
2/ Get rid of extra spaces like between header and big picture AND on right side of elements, aside from footer
Using a Group block will help with center aligning content (so the gaps are consistent on left and right) and also being able to align elements to be full width.
I can see there is a bottom-margin on the ‘Group’ Block in your header which is causing the gap – you’ll be able to edit that within the Site Editor (Appearance > Editor) and clicking on the template in the preview on the right.
3/ What type of element is my picture, anyway?
The image would be in an Image Block.
https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/image-block/
I can’t get the picture to fill up the entire width of the site.
With the image in a Group block – you’ll be able to set that image to be full width using the alignment tools.

5/ What is controlling the width of the page content – are there columns defining that space as well?
In the style settings for the site – there is a ‘Content Width’ which can be set. So it is not so much that there are columns – but more that there is a maximum width that can be set for content (mostly text) to make sure it is easy to read.
You can change the width of that Content Width/Column following these instructions:
- Go to the Site Editor (Appearance > Editor) and click on the preview to open the editor
- Click the ‘Styles’ button (circle split in half) at top right.
- You can select the ‘Layout’ section and change settings for the ‘Content’ width

6/ How do I add space between paragraphs in my page content?
It’s possible to use the Global Styles for the Paragraph Block to make the margin between paragraphs larger.
When in the Site Editor with the Styles section open (as you had for the previous answer) you can go to Blocks > Paragraph and change the margin settings as seen here.
https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/dimension-controls-overview/#margin
7/ Is my footer actually a header – at one point it seemed like it was, not sure now
At the moment it looks as though all the content in your page (your home page at least) is contained inside the Header Block from the top of your site. If you open the Site Editor (Appearance > Editor) and click the preview to start editing – I’d recommend opening the List View.
https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/list-view/
With the list view open you’ll see that everything is contained inside the Header block. You can click the arrows in the list view to expand and see the other elements – and then drag/drop to remove them from the header block so they sit on their own.
The ‘can’t get rid of’ issue: I can’t get rid of the message to add title that sits on top of my content block. Tried everything but it persists.
It sounds like you’re talking about the section within the editor which can be used for the Page Title. The short answer is that this can’t be removed. In fact I’d recommend using it to have page titles – so you don’t end up with a bunch of ‘Untitled’ pages.
If you don’t want them showing on the actual front-end of the site, the ‘Page Title’ block is something you can remove from your Page Template.
If you head to the Site Editor (Appearance > Editor) and then go to Templates > Page and click to edit it – you’ll see a ‘Page Title’ block which can be deleted.

I hope that all helps – please give the various things a try and see how you go 🙂
