    Dear all,
I am fairly new to all WP stuff and learning on a go. I am trying to build my website http://www.breadsandmore.com Today I tried to create a news feed widget on Feedzilla and then embed the code into sidebar.php file , then I got this message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/32/7797732/html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/inc/widgets.php on line 167

I deleted the code, updated my file and still got this same message.

I have no idea what it means. I even cannot reach my admin area to at least have a look and make some changes now, as my comp shut down unexpectedly. I am so frustrated now… How can I correct all mistakes I’ve made? Please, help! Thank y’all!

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues.

Re-iupload a fresh copy of Twenty Eleven and then create a child theme for your customisations. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

Esmi, if you don’t mind, I have a question. I was able to fix the mistake with uploading/replacing just a single file. You said it’s better to upload a fresh copy of my theme. Can I leave my old theme with a new .php “patch” file instead, and create a new directory for a child theme? I mean is it critical to upload a fresh copy of the whole theme? Would I have to redo my website from scratch in this case? Thank you for your help!
