Sorting posts by amount of views on archive display (5 posts)

    Hello All,

I'm looking for a way to display my posts by amount of views rather than date. So hopefully the post with the highest views will be top of the category achieve and therefore display on the front page slideshow. If you’re following so far here's some more depth...

The idea is that the post with the most views as the day goes on will be on the front page, as the most red, and the one with the least will be listed last. At the end of the day everything resets and the whole process starts again. Ultimately the most interesting posts will always be first and it won't be me who makes that decision but my visitors. Of course new posts will be added daily too.

If you can give me a pointer to either how I can do this with my arras theme or if there is some plug-in or hack I would very much appreciate your support.

Just to offer a pointer you'll need to first find a way to track page views, for that you might wish to start here.

WordPress does not track page views "as is", so that should be your first step.

    Mark / t31os,

Many thanks for your comments. I have done some digging around and found these:

And just wondered if these are on the right lines to achieving what I’m looking for. In all honesty, I’m relatively new to all this so a heads up on the capabilities of these plug-ins would help greatly.

Plus I don’t suppose I’m the first to have thought that posts by popularity is the way to pleasing my readers?

Thanks again Mark / t31os, that's great however, as I said, I really need something that will sort these posts out so that rather than having a sidebar widget it is actually providing the front page with content that's essentially the most viewed. And furthermore is 'reset' if you like every day so that the content remains 'fresh' daily. I'm not sure these plugins can do that?
