    Hi there,

I’ve used plugins like this in the past, so I’m pretty sure I set everything up correctly, but keep getting the “sorry, photo gallery is empty” error. Any troubleshooting tips?

    Thank you in advance

There is no such text in the entire code of Photonic, so I am not really sure what you are seeing or which plugin is causing this. Unfortunately the info you have provided isn’t adequate for me to assist any further. If you provide me with a URL and the shortcode you are using I might be able to help you troubleshoot.

I looked at your user profile and figured out your URL. What I see is that you are using a theme that seems to be causing this issue. I Googled the error message you posted, and sure enough, the very first link is for SKT Themes, which seems to be the parent theme for what you are using.

I am marking this resolved as this is unrelated to Photonic. If, however, you are able to confirm that this is a Photonic issue, please feel free to reopen it with the information I have requested in my post above (a working URL and the shortcode you are using).

Okay, thank you. I am obviously a novice & was just reaching out for help since the only time I’ve received this error was with this plugin. Sorry to have wasted your time. Have a great day.

Trust me – nothing is “wasted time”! I do try to ensure that every user is able to use the plugin, which is why I make it a point to go through every support request personally.

Let me know if you require help setting this up, or if you have any further information that will help troubleshoot this.

I have a follow-up question, if you don’t mind my asking. Where exactly do you see the error? In the back-end (admin dashboard) or in the front-end?

If it is the back-end, it might simply be a problem with your theme being unable to display certain galleries. In such a case, if you switch to the “Text” editing mode (instead of the “Visual” editor), insert the gallery via Add Media → Photonic and save the page / post, do you see the gallery in the front-end?

    Hi Sayontan,

Thank you for reaching back out. Unfortunately, the error message is on the front-end. It looks from what I can find like this theme has a default gallery built into the theme, which somehow doesn’t allow some other gallery plugins to function correctly. It looks like many people have had this issue & it is usually resolved by them going into the user’s backend and changing the coding themselves. Sadly, they don’t seem to be as responsive as you.

Thank you so much again. I sincerely appreciate you going above & beyond to try to help.

OK – here is a simple fix that you might be able to employ. If you go into Photonic’s options, pick the very first one: Photonic → Settings → Generic Options → Generic Settings → Custom Shortcode. Now, by default Photonic uses the gallery shortcode, but you can specify a custom shortcode here, e.g. photonic. If you do so, you may be able to simply reference a Photonic gallery using the new shortcode and everything might work out without additional hassle.

Let me know if this works.

Hi again! OMG, I think this almost works! The empty gallery error is gone & I can view the “albums” function, but the “photos” function says that I have an invalid album ID. It should just be the actual album name, correct? Or is there a way to get a numerical ID?

Almost everything requires an alphanumeric ID. You can get the IDs from Photonic → Helpers for the respective source.

You, sir, are fantastic. Thank you so much! Going to go leave a stellar review on your plugin now.

Have a super night & thank you again! You saved my butt!
