    This was solved by my web hosting provider, which had just moved my site to a new server.
    The issue was with the DNS zone file, it contained some old IPv6 entries in it. Facebook gives preference to IPv6 address so it tried to fetch from the old server.
    The DNS zone file was rebuilt to fix this.
