  • great plugin so far. i like it a lot and it does essentially what i need currently. i have some humble suggestions/ideas.
first of all i can see this plugin has a lot of potential. i don’t know if you plan to make a premium version or premium addons in the future, but i would most likely buy it if so.

    1. create detailed documentation/tutorials explaining each feature of the plugin. more screenshots would help too. a demo website using this plugin to the fullest extent would be great as well.

    2. please make a better formats and editable formats for the saved information of the game that shows up in the games list (description, instructions, author, etc). right now when i add those short codes it gets listed without any format or spacing between information. the problem is pretty much how the short codes generate the information.

    3. like how we can save the game description, author, etc, it would be cool if we could save the date that the game was added to the website. the format could be “added on (date)” (editable)
this would help in situations like for example if i add a game to my website but i forget when i added the game to the page, i could just add in the date later on.

    4. grid/list mode: these modes will be useful for allowing people to list browser games on their website. i imagine it will work like being able to add a short code that displays general info about a game like a thumbnail, title, short description, date added, author name, etc all in one (editable). the picture below displays what i’m talking about, but the user should be able to edit the layout variations depending on whether they want a list or grid style. the short code would display that style.

    5.

(i’ll add more when i think of more)

    5. rating system: for games so viewers/players can post ratings. i suppose one way this can work is to add a tab for the rating system. the user can edit the rating system from there (like whether the ratings will be enabled or disabled by default, whether the ratings would be by stars (and how many stars), likes/dislikes, etc). then each game would have its own shortcode for ratings that the user can get from the “show games list” tab when making a new page or blog post.

    6. related games: for users to be able to display other games they uploaded in a related games section. how it could work is that there would be a related games tab. the user will edit the behavior of related games (like how the section will look, how many games will be displayed, whether the section will pull games from the same categories or tags or both, if the sort order will be random or from recently uploaded games etc). then there will be shortcode in the “show games list” tab for each game. the shortcode will be specific to that game so it can use the same categories/tags as the listed game.

    Hi Kibbles,

My apologies for the late reply, For some reason I wasn’t subscribed to the support forum so I didn’t get a notifiaction of the post you made.

I like your ideas, and I’m pleased to say that most is already on my list, and some are actually already in place!

    1. create detailed documentation/tutorials explaining each feature of the plugin. more screenshots would help too. a demo website using this plugin to the fullest extent would be great as well.

    1. I am currently working on a full documentation with two sections in mind:
    a) One for non coders that just want some copy paste action to get their desired result, and;

    b) A more in-depth documentation with integration hooks for theme designers and other plugin developers (as well as myself) to extend and change functionality. These can be used to change almost every aspect of the plugin to suit very specific needs should somebody have them.

The second part of the documentation requires a bit of work, but the first part should be coming in not too long.

    2. please make a better formats and editable formats for the saved information of the game that shows up in the games list (description, instructions, author, etc). right now when i add those short codes it gets listed without any format or spacing between information. the problem is pretty much how the short codes generate the information.

    2. Yes, This may be a little confusing at first, but it is actually an intended feature. I added minimal formatting (if anything at all) to the data displayed so that it have minimal default impact on how a site displays. This is so that how your website looks is entirely in your hands, I don’t want to tell you how your site should look. 🙂

BUT all is not lost, there is already a way to pass classnames through the shortcodes, as well as change the way outputted date is displayed, this will be covered in depth in the documentation (with live updating code examples).

    3. …it would be cool if we could save the date that the game was added to the website. the format could be “added on (date)” (editable)…

    3. I agree, I’ve put this on my list.

4.5.6: I’ll cover these at the same time as they all go into a future version that I’ve already begun making (but its release is way into the future still), which I’m at this point calling “full arcade mode”.

Instead of using shortcodes in your posts like you are doing now, you will have the option to enable “full arcade mode” which essentially makes use of themes and turns your wordpress site into a fully fletched arcade website. No need to make default wordpress posts after adding games. You’ll have ratings, display options, top lists, etc. etc.

Now, two things I would like to mention regarding the full arcade mode:

    1. For those that don’t want to use it, the shortcodes system will be the default setting and NONE of the full arcade mode files or systems will be loaded unless activated, so the plugin will operate as a lightweight addition to display games in existing posts.

    2. This mode and its functionality is quite extensive, and this is a project I enjoy and have fun with every now and then in my spare time, so this mode is far into the future still. I have many plans for the shortcode version before the full arcade mode is put into action.

I hope that answered your questions and to answer your first one, I don’t have any plans of making any part of Arcade Ready in a premium version or in paid additions. While I can’t guarantee that there won’t be a premium version, my idea is to make a free plugin and if I were to charge for anything, it would probably be for premium themes for the full arcade mode.

    Hi Kibbles,

I have added the date field you were wanting. This change is not in the current stable version yet, but if you wish to get a head start on it, feel free to download it here:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/boklui10hvaua7p/ArcadeReady%20v1.1.1.zip?dl=0

To install it through ftp, just unzip and upload these files replacing the existing files in: wp-content/plugins/arcadeready
As always when updating, its a good idea to take a backup of the files first.

You do not have to go back and update the field for any old games you have added, if the date field is empty, it will use the date the game is published as a default.
