 * 1. you can try to change mail sending method under Events > Settings > Emails
   > Email Settings > Mail Sending Method eg. try SMTP then your gmail account to
   rule out any mail server issue.
 * 2. not possible at the moment for the free version but already been available
   for EMpro which is an official premium addon to EM (free).

 * Any SMTP should work ok, but GMail is good for testing because you know if already
   working.
