    Hi Steve,

I’ve been working increase my website’s mobile performance with the lighthouse testing tools. Google has bundled a version of this testing tool in Chrome’s developer tools. Although, the downloadable plugin has the latest updates and does more extensive testing.

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lighthouse/blipmdconlkpinefehnmjammfjpmpbjk?hl=en

I am finding that there are some pictures that are loading ahead of when they’re supposed to and it’s delaying my load by 1 second.

    Here is the runtime environment
    User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.186 Safari/537.36
    Device Emulation Nexus 5X: Enabled
Network Throttling 562.5ms RTT, 1.4Mbps down, 0.7Mbps up: Enabled
    CPU Throttling 4x slowdown: Enabled

With all that emulation and throttling, the offscreen images that are loading when they’re not supposed to add up to only 178kb, but that takes 1,010ms.

This is important to me because of the upcoming google ranking changes in July.

    Thanks,
    Derek

    Hi Derek,

Thanks for all the info – i have tested a few sites with the browser extension and don’t see that issue. I’d suggest make a look at the images that are loading without lazy load – perhaps they are being loaded by a plugin that wraps the image in some script – lazy load cannot load images that are wrapped in a script tag.

    Regards
    Steve

It was loaded through a shortcode from my theme.
