A wild guess, but check your Dashboard> Settings> Media. Do you have the Thumbnail size set to width: 460 and height: 360, and is the “Crop thumbnails…” checkbox below that checked?

If so that would explain things. You have asked WordPress to make thumbnails to maintain the ratio of 480:360, width to height, ie, an “aspect ratio” of 4:3, even if the original is a different aspect ratio. WordPress does this feat but taking a best guess at where best to crop the image. These original images of yours are not at a 4:3 aspect ratio:

So they must be cropped (ie, some of the image not used) to get them to be 4:3:

Best would be make your original images intended to be thumbnails 4:3, then they’ll scale down w/o needing any cropping.

Hi
My thumbnail size is set to width 50 height 50 in media settings. Yes crop thumbnail to exact dimensions is ticked.
What are your other Media settings sizes (“Medium” and “Large”)? And are you using any plugins that might handle image resizing?
Something is cropping your images at the 480×360 size, likely during the upload process.

Medium images are 300 by 300. Large images are set for 1024 by 1024. I am using an aggregator plugin with a thumbnails addon. The thumbnail size is set to 150×150.
What’s the name of the plugin?
I suspect it’s adding an image size of 480×360 and forcing a crop to get those exact dimensions. Does the plugin have a settings screen? In any case, if you want your thumbs to all be the same 480×360 on your news page, you’ll need to make your originals that you upload that same 4:3 aspect ratio.
Otherwise they’ll be cropped (as they are now). Or, if you can remove the forced cropping, they’ll be the same 480 width, but different heights.
Hope this makes sense.

The plugin name is wp rss aggregator. I intend on uploading them with a 4:3 aspect ratio from now on.
Right, 4:3. That’s something you’ll want to start doing regardless of the source of the cropping.
I notice the WP RSS Aggregator plugin has a “” premium add-on, perhaps that’s what’s setting your 480×360 image size and cropping:

The rss aggregator add-on is thumbnails and excerpts and it has a thumbnail size of 150x150px. Is it possible for the wordpress theme to cause it?
If you still need help with this, you should ask on the forum for that plugin here:

Yes, themes often add their own image sizes.
