# Some Basic Questions

 * Excuse my dumbness, but I have a few basic questions:
 * • I would like links to archives that are in larger groups than months. For example,
   instead of Jan 2008, Feb 2008, etc., I would like links that say Jan-Jul 2008,
   Aug-Dec 2008, etc. Do I have to use up a category for this, or can the archive
   range be changed?
    • I am migrating a bunch of posts from a really bad, non-WordPress
   site to my new and improved one. I will be editing the post dates as I enter 
   the data since the posts go back two years. How would I categorize those into
   archives as I enter them? • In addition to the search box, I would like a page
   of alphabetized titles that hyperlink to the article (post). Any ideas on how
   to set that up? I have done that before with anchors and hyperlinks, but not 
   on a blogging tool.

 * Just as a note, archives are a generated thing, meaning when you view archives
   they are generated, on the spot, by WordPress, into the proper collection, be
   it date, category, or tag archives.
 * 1. I don’t believe, without some coding, that it would be easy to get archives,
   by quarter. You might have the best idea in using a Category such as Jan-Mar 
   2008, or Apr-Jun 2008, etc.
 * 2. You should put a date on each post and assign the proper Category/Categories
   and/or Tags.
 * 3. Might look at something like a site-map plugin such as [Dagon Design Sitemap Generator](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/sitemap-generator/)
   or look at creating a [Page Template](http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages) that 
   uses the [template tag](http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags), [query_posts()](http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/query_posts),
   to generate a list of posts.
