A consultant used Make to create my WP website. I’m trying to make some pretty simple changes.

I’ve read WP tutorials but can’t seem to find a description of what to call the different areas on a page. If I don’t know the correct terms I cannot look them up in support documentation.

    Can someone tell me:

-On the top of my WP site, what do you call the top area where my logo and tagline are found? I want to upload an improved logo image and change the color of the tagline font.

-Below that is what I call a red bar menu with six choices (“tabs”). What do I call that area of the page?

-I know how to create a new page, and I’ve written the draft text, but I can’t figure out how to create a new menu “tab” that corresponds to that new page. In other words, I want a new menu choice with a corresponding static page.

    My website is at http://www.larsonslade.com.

Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hello!

You’ll find the logo in your WordPress dashboard here:

    Appearance → Customize → General → Logo

The red area with your tabs is called the Menu. You can edit menu items here:

    Appearance → Menus

The menu screen is also where you’ll add new menu items. You might want to look over this page in the WordPress codex on menus: Navigation Menus

    I hope that helps!

A belated thank you for your help.

I realize my questions were about very basic functions, but I had tried them after reading tutorials and they weren’t working. It occurred to me to try them in IE instead of Firefox because I have some Javascript security protections in place on Firefox (NoScript). Although I had turned the NoScript protections “off,” I was still having trouble with some functions not working.

Anyway, I did make the changes thanks to your suggestions.

Reading through the forums, it appears that to modify my Home page tagline (below the logo), I will have to figure out some script to insert. I’ve seen several examples. Can you verify this is the only way to modify the font in my tagline (e.g., change the color)?

    Thank you again Melissa!

UPDATE: I figured out how to edit the font, and I made some other changes.

My contact form has disappeared since I added some bulleted text to the Contact page. It is the Formidable plug-in. I checked that the plug-in is still a activated. How do I get the form to be visible again?

    Thank you.
