• Hi guys

A family type blog I host has begun to get a lot of new registrations and they are obviously not interested in my blog, they are coming from .ru addressess and have names like cheapmeds.com. So two questions.

What is the logic of registering on a site if you are not going to use it to spam – all these guys are doing is registering. Is it purely for the backlinks they get or is there some more dangerous reason?

Secondly, what’s your recommondation as regards a captcha plugin for new registrations. I think I’m going to have to instal one of these.

    Many thanks for any advice

    Kevin

  • Try the SABRE plugin. Search for it, install and activate. In your Admin: Be sure also to look in Settings > General > Members > (tik on) Anyone can register which turns the whole thing on (missing from the doc). Visit Tools > SABRE and carefully select the features that SABRE will provide – the defaults provided aren’t too bad. I recommend reading the whole SABRE documentation before setting this out.

My one problem with this plugin is: When I test it, it reponds” Error IP Address Banned” – on my own site! I’m still trying to figure that one out. Maybe someone here can drop a clue…

I’d like to see how you make out with it.
