 * I originally installed WordPress in a sub directory (/dev) using the Softaculous
installed my web host provides. When I was done, I moved the installation up
one level to the root directory, deleted /dev and updated the database. Everything
   works fine, except:
 * Softaculous still thinks there’s an installation at /dev and I get messages periodically
   to update this.
 * I’d like to either delete this now phantom install in Softaculous, or update
the path in Softaculous, but I don’t want this to damage my installation.
 * Have others run into this issue and what’s the best way to resolve it?

 * Yes, happened to me as well. Once you do what you did with your installation,
you need to “tell” Softaculous that there’s nothing in that folder any longer.
🙂 I can’t remember where to go exactly in order to do that, but it is definitely
   inside cPanel.

 * Thanks. And changing that won’t affect the installation?

 * Well, if you adjust the path, Softaculous should continue to update your WP automatically(
if you’ve set it that way during initial installation), for every minor upgrade,
like 4.7.4 -> 4.7.5 for instance, maybe even for major ones 4.7.4 -> 4.8, and
if you delete that line it will not update anything and you’ll have to do the
   updates from within the dashboard.

 * OK. My biggest concern is that it won’t affect/change the database.

 * Nope, it has nothing to do with the database whatsoever.
