Social Icons and Adblock

    Hello there
    Today I’ve started a new project using twenty-twenty as father theme.
    I’d already noticed, from a past project, that the svg social icons of this theme are blocked by some adblock browser extentions. That time I had hardcoded the theme, renaming all ‘social’ css class to ‘sol’, effectively bypassing the adblock issue.
    This time, however, I prefer using the back-end code as it is, ’cause for this project I prefer a child theme rather than a pseudo fork.
    So, considering that adblocks are a widespread reality nowadays, there is a solution for this problem that permit me to keep the code of the parent theme intact?

    I’ve never seen that happen before on this theme. In this case, I recommend reporting the false-positive to the ad blocker as a far more permanent fix.

    Ook, first and foremost thanks for the reply.
    I’ve done some try with the filters and I’ve figured that the problem is one specific filter.
    This one is a social blocking list, so isn’t a false positive but is the filter that work as intended, indiscriminately block all .social and #social icons, buttons and links. What’s worse, is active by default in at least two adblock extentions.
    So, granted that the average user doesn’t personalize filters nor use the whitelist, I need to find a solution without rely on a report to the adblocker.
    The other option I can think of is respect the will of the users, leaving the code as it is, maybe putting a disclaimer on the homepage (with an IF -> the social icon are display:none), warning that some filters on adblock extension may compromise the user experience on the site.

    I recommend the latter option, respecting the will of your visitors.

    If they have chosen to block social links and buttons, they aren’t going to be happy seeing them, and would likely end up just reporting them to their ad blocking extension anyway.
