Support » Plugin: Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth » Social Authentication not working for JP Comments

  • Resolved Jon Brown

When a visitor wants to leave a comment they need to login via WP, gmail, FB or Twitter.

WP works, but the others do not.

They all popup an authorization form, then user clicks “authorize” and gets redirected back to the site. Only the site just hangs on “Connecting to Twitter” or “Connecting to FaceBook”.

XML-RPC is not blocked. What else could cause this?

    Hi @jb510,

Could you please post your site URL here, so we can do some targeted troubleshooting?

    Hi @jb510

I was able to see the issue on your site, but it’s not immediately obvious what’s causing it.

There may be something else installed on the site that’s causing problems. The quickest way to figure out if something is interfering is to test for a theme or plugin conflict.

I know it’s less than ideal, but could you please try the following:

    – Temporarily deactivate all the site’s plugins except for Jetpack and clear your browser’s cache.
    – Then try testing the comment form again. If it works, then we’ll know that another plugin is conflicting here. You can re-enable your plugins one by one, testing the comment form in between, until you find the one causing the conflict. You can leave it disabled or reach out to the plugin developer for a fix.

If disabling plugins doesn’t help, it may be the theme.

    – Temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Twenty. Then test the comment form again. If it works, then you know it’s a problem with the theme, and you can reach out to the theme developer for a fix.

Let us know how that goes.

I was able to reproduce this issue on a test site. I’ve submitted it to our developers here:

You can follow along there for updates, so I’ll mark this thread as resolved.
