Support » Plugin: Broken Link Checker » So many false positives for months now

  • Resolved Tina

Has anyone else noticed that in recent months…probably more than a year…I haven’t kept track…it’s been quite a while….that there have been a fair amount of false positives on this plugin? Meaning, it is saying links that are broken that are not?

I get that Amazon and YouTube and other similar links are quirky and can be tricky to work with and I do have patience for this…but it also seems to be just so random site links, and it feels like it’s been increasing lately that more often than not, the “broken links” that I am getting alerted to are not broken.

I often give it the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was temporarily down when it checked, but I always do a recheck, often many times, and STILL it says they are broken when they are clearly not. All kinds of links.

Not only that, but I have started to stumble upon broken links in just normal maintenance of my site that the link checker never alerted me to! Goodness knows how many more there may be that it missed.

    I’m concerned.

I have used this plugin for years because it used to work so very well…but I have been getting more and more unhappy with it and would love to know if others are having the same issues or if I am alone in this?

    Hi @sunflowermom,

Sorry to hear you have been having these issues with Link Checker, certainly not a desired behavior.

Could you share some of the links that are working for you but reported broken and also some of the broken ones that are not getting reported so we can check them out and see what might be causing this?

Have you tried checking those reported links with a tool like that checks the URLs from different parts of the world, to see if perhaps it loads from one location but doesn’t from other?
