OK, I'm definitely not the most tech savvy person, but I can make a blog on Blogger, that's probably not saying much, that's why I wanted to try WordPress.

I feel like a total idiot because I can't figure this out. I click on "download WordPress" then it pops up to Save or Open, so I do both, then the downloads box opens up with the WordPress file, so I'm guessing it's unzipped itself....NOW WHAT?!?!?!

What do I do?? I feel like things usually prompt themselves to install after they've been downloaded, but that's not happening.

I know this is probably the easiest thing to do, but I just can't figure it out and it's extremely frustrating. I've tried reading the Handy Guide and it's like reading a foreign language. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

WordPress is not a program that you download, install and run.

It is a web site framework which needs to be installed and run from a web server. It also requires a database.

You can set up an suitable environment on your own computer to do so in order to try it out without having to purchase a hosting account, which you would need to do if you want your site to be available on the web.

The best place to start is in the Documentation section of this site.

WordPress doesn't install by itself. It isn't an .exe file. The WordPress files are designed to be uploaded to a server environment.

    Start here: About WordPress

    Then here: Codex Main Page

    ...and here: Installing WordPress

...and finally: How to Install on Your Own Computer

If you want to try WordPress, similar to how you used Blogger, then you could always start a blog at http://wordpress.com

katparker1724 If you're looking for a hosted blog then http://wordpress.com is your best bet. It's also similar to blogger.

If you're looking to host a website yourself then http://wordpress.org is what you're trying to use.

Here's a good link if you want to understand the difference between the two a little better.
