Hello ScoutHarper, no one know what’s going on. The author of the plugin at the moment can’t do nothing because it’s a yahoo problem (server down). Happen the same in 2014 and in 2013 and the duration of downtime was more then one week. It’s really sad. Yahoo and company don’t give us ANY update.
I have the same problem.
Hoping that it works again next week …
Us as well. Subscribing to this thread.
me too have the same problem here
Is not there another plugin that does the same?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/ is another option. This processes locally I believe, vs uploading through Yahoo.
I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue. following along. hope they fix it soon.

And thanks for the possible alternative plugin Courtney.
Latest version of WP Smush.it includes a notice from the folks at WPMU Dev that it looks like Yahoo! may have discontinued Smush.it and they are working to develop an alternative. I like the idea of EWWW…though perhaps Auttommatic will consider adding it to Jetpack.
Noticed this today, the link to yahoo’s site for smush it (https://developer.yahoo.com/yslow/smushit/) just redirects now to their front page.
As you’re aware, Yahoo provide the Smush.it service. It seems like they’ve stopped their service for some reason. 🙁
Our plugin simply allows you to connect to their API.
Yahoo seem to be silent about this, but people are tweeting:
We’re also looking at the possibility of running our own free service, but servers are not cheap and processing images like this can be resource intensive. We also need to get the hardware setup and some special custom development.
Rest assured we’re working as quickly as we can can to resume a free service. We’ll update as soon as we can.
thank you for update, please do something for help us.
Also looking for a free alternative, won’t be paying for WPMU
Thanks for your response. So the WP Smushit plugin is now worthless, and here is the complete message that it now gives:
Yahoo appears to be either discontinuing or not supporting their free Smush.it service – bah!
So, WPMU DEV is looking into how we can provide a free service to you that replaces this… but it’s going to take some time.
So, in the interim, we’re providing a (very temporary) 90% discount on any new WPMU DEV membership to WP Smush. It users so you can use our dedicated Smush Pro servers – click here to take that up (and please don’t share it around).
We will update the plugin as soon as we have it in place. Thanks, WPMU DEV
How long do you estimate before we know more about this?
Thank you again.
