 * Hi,
    We have a website that is hosted using one provider and the e-mail services
   are provided by another company. We have the situation where the website does
   not seem to be sending any messages out as several forms are just collating the
   information, not sending it on. This is also the same on 2 other security plugins
   and I’ve used all of these plugins on several other websites without any issues
   so I don’t think that this is due to a plugin configuration issue. I’ve used
   an SMTP plugin to test the connection and it appears that the messages are not
   being routed to the SMTP server. The error message given is “SMTP connect() failed”.
   Unfortunately, the hosting company tech support’s position is that as a script
   that was run on their server sends messages, there isn’t a problem at their end.
   The e-mail provider’s tech support state that their servers are working correctly
   and that they are not receiving any instructions from the website to send messages
   on.
 * So in a nutshell, both parties are stating that all is well but nothing is being
   sent.
 * Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?
 * Any and all help would be appreciated…

 * It seems as if there’s a disconnect between your site and the email server. Are
   you certain that the SMTP settings are correct?
 * If so, try disabling all plugins other than the SMTP plugin. Do some action on
   the site that would prompt an email to be sent (i.e. create a new user account
   with a valid email address, use the “Forgot Password” link, etc.) and see if
   the email goes through.
    - If email **does** go through, try reactivating plugins one-by-one, while attempting
      to send an email as described above after each plugin is activated. The last
      plugin activated when the emails fail to send again will likely be the one
      causing the issue.
    - If the email **doesn’t** go through, make sure that the domain for the email
      address matches the domain for the site (i.e. [you@example.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/smtp-issues-2/you@example.com?output_format=md)
      being sent from example.com). Sometimes a mismatch in the domains causes the
      email to not be delivered.

 * Hi Scott,
 * That’s good thinking. I am sure that the SMTP settings are correct and I’ve had
   them checked by the e-mail ISP and everything is in order.
    The website is a
   live one so I’ll try your suggestion regarding the plugins during a quiet time,
   hopefully I’ll be able to pin down the problem.
