I really like this plugin, but it's bothering me that the URL shortener isn't working with it.

I've installed the Bit.ly Official WordPress Plug-in, and I also trialed the Social Sharing Toolkit plugin. The Bit.ly URL shortener kicks in and works with the Toolkit, but not with SMF. When I disable the Bit.ly plugin, the Toolkit goes back to the old URLs, so it's clear that it's working - just not with SMF.

The only reason I'm not using the Toolkit is it's causing a ton of errors on my site, so I'd really like to use SMF, but I'd like to get it to use Bit.ly.

And to clarify, I've got "Use Shortlinks" checked, with "Share Full URL" unchecked.

    Any help/suggestions?

I would need more details in order to properly investigate this. Provide a link to the page in question to begin with. Thanks!

I'm assuming under Settings -> Social Media you have "Use Shortlinks" on and "Use Full URLs" off, is that correct?

Could you go into one of the posts edit screen and click on the "get shortlink" button? What does it display?

Looks like this never got updated, I had the same issue and here's how I resolved it.

The "official" plugin from Bitly doesn't actually override the "get shortlink" functionality in WordPress, which is what SMF uses to get it's shortlink.

Instead, I would recommend using this plugin : WP Bitly - https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-bitly/. You can verify that it will work with SMF by going to the Edit Post page and clicking the "Get Shortlink" button and ensuring that it comes up with the bitly link instead of the WordPress link.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for the note mattdodge!
And yes, shortlink is the standardized WordPress way of specifying shortlinks for posts. The fact that the official Bitly plugin doesn't use it is a bit puzzling.
