 * I just purchased a backup script to run a night backup of my files/database at
   my webhost.
 * I have found that something within my settings is blocking this php script from
   connecting to the database. I can’t seem to locate what would do that though.
 * Can you help narrow down my search range, or can you tell me how to whitelist
   my script?

 * If I remove all of the entries in the .htaccess except the standard wordpress
   ones, I can make the database connection.

 * Okay, start by disabling all the Firewall and Brute Force features. See if that
   helps you. If it does then you know the problem lies with one or more of these
   settings. Start by enabling one by one until you come across the culprit.
