    Hi,

I am comparing Yoast SEO and Smart Crawl. I really want to use Smart Crawl, but for whatever reason I cannot edit the Google preview information like I can with Yoast. (I deinstalled it for testing, so it shouldn’t be a plug-in conflict, but of course I have other plug-ins too, so you never know…)

The description that it shows in the Google text block under the title is all written in really strange code… and the areas where it looks like I should be able to add my own text are greyed-out… As is, the plug-in is not usable because I cannot edit my SEO data. Any ideas?

    Thanks! April

As an update, I think this issue has to do with WPBakery – if I write the SEO metadata before adding content to my page, then it is okay, but if I add content first, then I get a bunch of code in the meta data area (apparently it tries to read my content and take an excerpt) and I cannot change this excerpt (gibberish code). It wouldn’t be crazy if it does this as long as I have a way of editing what is shown in the box and as long as there are no other compatibility / functional issues seen by browsers that effect my website’s integrity.

    Hi @spottedsalamander,

Thanks for trying out SmartCrawl. There’s no known conflict with WPBakery so it should work correctly for you. At the very least you should be able to change the meta values in the metabox. Do you see any errors in your browser’s console?

    Hi Hassan,

like I said, I only know what I am experiencing… I think Smart Crawl may be working technically okay, it just seems to try to add an excerpt from what is on the page… is that true? Just being able to disable this automatic grabbing of text in the plug-in settings would probably fix my issue adequately.

And this excerpt is all code in my case… and since I use WPBakery, I am guessing that it is grabbing the code from there. I like to use html inserts for longer texts, so just testing WPBakery may not be enough… one would have to specifically test the html insert.

I would gladly send a screenshot, do you have an IT support e-mail? After this code has populated the meta data I cannot change or delete it. This is not true of new pages that do not yet have content. (There the functionality is completely okay – I can add new text and edit it as I please.)

I do have some console errros, but most of them have to do with a chrome plug-in or broken image links because I am on a temporary domain… I didn’t see anything that looked specifically like it might belong to smart crawl, but I am planning on troubleshooting the errors as soon as I migrate over to my real domain, as I expect a fair number of the issues to resolve themselves at that point.

    Thanks, April

A screenshot would be helpful. You can use a service like https://prnt.sc/ to share an image with us.

Let’s try it this way: https://nimb.ws/tSnKxM (Nimbus screen capture)

Just to confirm, the “SEO Title” and “Description” fields in that screenshot are disabled for you?

I just tested it and on my setup it seems to be working as it should:

SmartCrawl is supposed to remove the WPBakery shortcodes and show just text contained within those shortcodes. For some reason this doesn’t seem to be happening on your site. Also, the title and description fields are never supposed to be disabled.

Are you facing both these issues for old posts only?

Hi, I am not sure of what you are asking… I discovered that I can edit the features on the pages tab instead of on the page itself – if that makes sense, so it is kind of working, but I would still like to be able to update the information directly on the page itself… I still have the issue, nothing has changed.

Hello, I can confirm that is still failing to read the text between the WPBakery code and still including that code as the description if you do not specifically change it in the meta box. This is happening for Smartcrawl Pro.
