German language settings are devided into two variants.

    German > Deutsch
    German formal/business > Deutsch (Sie)

The formal one if selected as default language in wordpress isn’t detected as German, so there will be a fallback to english. This makes no sense.
    German formal is also german.

“Deutsch” and “Deutsch (Sie)” has both to be detected as german.

    Thank you!

They are different translations and currently we only have the standard German not the formal variant.

So not a bug, just expected behaviour.

If you’d like to help out with a formal translation let me know and I can set you up on our translation site.

    Hi Greg!,

no, there has not to be a formal translation, but would be nice to have the regular german one working like it should.

There is no formal for statistics a.s.o. so translation from german to german formal makes no sense in the most cases… but would be nice to have the right laguage in Backend.

Is it possible just to patch de_de to de_de_formal?

    Thank you!

btw. if you want to, i can have a look at the translation to check if there have to be any differences on german to german formal… but i think formal language is not that neccessary on backend… in my case i need formal business german for my shop (frontend), and the regular german translation in Backend should be absoluitly sufficient. Just cosmentics not to have ugly language mix in backend which works in german formal from default.

You could just copy the language files from “de_DE” to “de_DE_Formal” but of course you’d have to do that every time WP Statistics updated.

The best way is to create the proper translation, let me know what you find out in your review and if it’s just a straight copy I’ll add it and import the default language to it.

If there’s changes required, I can add you on to the translators site after I do the import.

Hi Greg, there are some changes to be made…

if you want a correct formal Version on Backend. Would you please give me access to a “translation” Portal or something like that?

I’ve created you a user on the translation site and you should have access, let me know if you don’t.
