• I have been copying a client’s website data to a new address so that we have a production site to use. I copied their XML file, installed WordPress 3.5.1 (they are still on an old version, which is why we’re creating the production site) and uploaded the XML. from there, I brought over all of the plugins that they had and the them they were using. Everything was looking fine until I tried to go to a page other than the home using one of the menu links. It didnt work. At first I thought ‘ok, maybe its just the wrong slug attached to the menu button’, but even when I manually put in the correct slug directly to the browser, it did not work. It seems as though its looking for the file as an actual directory on the FTP end, but I know that wordpress doesn’t store webpages like that.

Any thoughts on how I can fix this without having to make all of the pages on the FTP?

  • Hi,

I think You should rebuild permalinks.
Go to Settings->permalinks, select ‘Post name’ and click ‘Save changes’ on the bottom.

And then, check pages slugs and menu items, because they probably will be diferent from what You had.
