• This plugin used to be my goto backup utility. Even purchased the developer bundle for cloud storage. Lately however database-only backups of sites less than 1mb seldom complete or take a minimum of 5-10 minutes to complete. Full backups can spin for hours with no backups made. I run this on a variety of shared hosting environments (LAMP stack), some of which are optimized for WordPress.

    Very much hoping these issues can be resolved (and will happily update my rating) in subsequent releases however the release schedule doesn’t appear to be keeping up with WordPress core.

    HI there –

    I’m sorry that you’ve had trouble with the BackUpWordPress plugin. Did you have an opportunity to leave a support request either on the support forum or through our dedicated support module on one of the site admins? If not, I’d like to encourage you to do so for more extensive troubleshooting help.

    In the meantime, though, to get started, I wonder if you’ve gone through some of our basic troubleshooting options to try and pinpoint the issue(s) you might be having, especially since there are different sites and servers having issues?

    Try following some of these tips to see if we can help isolate the issue you’re having:

    1. can you run a database-only backup?
    2. how about a files-only backup?
    3. If not, try to exclude your /wp-content/uploads folder, then run a manual backup. Does this work? If so, we know the size of your backup is probably hanging up your server.
    4. If you can, try disabling all other plugins, and switch to a default theme if possible as plugin conflicts can occur. Does that help?
    5. Can you check with your host about whether they block use of the MySQLDump Command and/or the Unix Zip Command?
    6. Ask your host or search through their FAQs to see if they have any hard limits set on their server for CPU usage, max_execution_time or other variables. See if you are able to set them in your own php.ini file.

    Let me know what you find out and we can troubleshoot from there, and I’m sorry again that you’ve been having so much trouble with our plugin. 🙁
