# slug entry

 * Is it alright to not have an entry for the slug in Yoast? It will not allow me
   to enter a slug I believe because of entry to another plugin. However, it allows
   the entry for a canonical URL that I set as: [https://gloriafoster.com/fiction-novel-with-suspense-and-mystery](https://gloriafoster.com/fiction-novel-with-suspense-and-mystery)

 * The slug field in the Yoast SEO metabox allows you to view and change the page
   name, but this feature isn’t working. Is that correct?
 * If you’re not able to make changes to the slug using Yoast SEO, we’d like to 
   get more information:
 * 1. Are you using the latest version of Yoast SEO 15.2.1 and are all your plugins
   and themes updated? If not, does updating solve the problem?
 * 2. Can you check for [JavaScript errors in the browser console](https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console)?
 * 3. If you suspect that another plugin may be interfering with this feature, are
   you able to identify which plugin causes the problem if you [check for conflicts](https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts)?

 * I’m using the latest version and have no JavaScript errors. I believe that I 
   already deleted the plugin that I thought would be interfering; so, I am unsure
   of what plugin that presently could be interfering. Do you think that it makes
   an difference in tracking the page if there is a difference in the slug and the
   canonical url?

   you have the canonical URL set to a custom value, you should still be able to
   edit the slug value.
 * If you have already confirmed that both Yoast SEO and WordPress are up to date
   and the issue is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict
   check to determine whether another plugin or theme is interfering with the Yoast
   plugin.
 * The fastest way to do this is to **deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch
   to a standard theme** like [Twenty Nineteen](https://wordpress.org/themes/twentynineteen/).
   Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend
   using the [Health Check & Troubleshooting](https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/)
   plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check **without affecting normal
   visitors to your site**.
