Our wordpress blog is EXTREMELY slow. Clients are abandoning the blogs due to the load times. The hosting provider is Yahoo.

    The wordpress version is 2.7.1

    The blog is at http://www.progressivepulse.com/blog.

Understand there are plugins like WP Super Cache requiring access to the .htaccess file. Yahoo does not allow access. Can not even see the .htaccess file. Not sure if this is the correct direction.

The 1.2 meg of images might have something to do with it.

I think you need to start optimising your images. markup, scripts and CSS.

also try deactivating your plugins to see if one of them is causing it to lag. If Yahoo is blocking one, that may be the issue.

    Team Members,

Appreciate the excellent ideas. Will optimize where we can. Did deactivate plugins to determine failure points.

Decided to create a second blog for testing purposes. In this version, the articles loaded quickly. Believe the first blog’s database may have been either corrupted, or needs to be optimized.

After additional testing, we decided to point to the newer blog and updated the links to that blog. This way we can investigate, in the background, while subscribers and authors can continue their work.

The normal techniques of unit testing, system/integration testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), prior to loading into “production” did not apply to the blog world.

Since the database consists of text, and the images are housed in flicker, the load times should not take long.

    This topic is resolved.

Thanks again for the quick, productive responses

    Sincerely,
    Mike Diaz, PMP
