Appreciate the excellent ideas. Will optimize where we can. Did deactivate plugins to determine failure points.
Decided to create a second blog for testing purposes. In this version, the articles loaded quickly. Believe the first blog's database may have been either corrupted, or needs to be optimized.
After additional testing, we decided to point to the newer blog and updated the links to that blog. This way we can investigate, in the background, while subscribers and authors can continue their work.
The normal techniques of unit testing, system/integration testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), prior to loading into "production" did not apply to the blog world.
Since the database consists of text, and the images are housed in flicker, the load times should not take long.
This topic is resolved.
Thanks again for the quick, productive responses
