# Slow to First Byte

 * Hi,
 * I am trying to figure out why I get an “F” for “Time To First Byte” when testing
   with webpagetest. And..what I might try to improve this “grade”
    [ Here is the latest
   test I have done

 * That’s because page caching isn’t actually working. I can check easily by seeing
   that the date/time stamp at the bottom of your HTML source is changing on every
   page view and I’m not logged in to your site (in which case caching by default
   is off).
 * Are you sure permissions are correct on the cache directory? I suggest going 
   through the installation instructions from the start again.

 * Is that in my server files? under w3tc plugin?

 * I think i got the caching working (or maybe not?). I changed the wpcontent permissions
   and reinstalled. I got my score on webpagetest to 99 but i still get an “F” for
   TTFB

 * I dropped back down to a 97 but got the TTFB from an “F” to a “B”

 * I guess W3tc is still not working properly since the time that my site is served
   by W3tc changes as is evident from my source code.
 * I did as Frederick suggested and started over and it has not resolved this issue.
 * I do see a file in my wp-content and am wondering if it is left over from another
   caching plugin and might be casuing conflict?
    it is wp-cache-config.php

 * That did sound like progress. If you wish, you can submit a bug submission form
   from the support tab of the plugin for a closer look.
