Slow performance in control panel

  • Is it just me or is WP 2.0 performance a bit slow?

I’ve still got 1.5 running on a couple of servers, When clicking on ‘Edit this Entry’ on a page or post, the control panel comes up in under a second (as shown at the bottom of the page).

On my new installation of 2.0, which still has a tiny data base, running on exactly the same host, loading from ‘Edit this entry’ takes 20-30 seconds!!

Am I doing something wrong? I searched for slow/speed/performance keywords, but it looks like everyone else is happy 🙁

  • The new admin panel is a lot more code heavy because of the tinymce and the ajax.

You can always turn off the rich text editor in your user profile if you like the speed of the old editor.

Turning off the rich text editor makes only a tiny difference. I must say that the front end — actual blog — runs MUCH MUCH slower in WP 2.0.

Again, is anyway to improve this? You can probably see what I mean yourself. Is it the use of non-English characters:

I’m going to try 2.0.1 today, but right now 1.5 looks much better for me… 🙁
