• Over time I have the feeling that my website (http://photona.org) is getting slower and slower.

In order to try to fix the issue I have run Google PageSpeed against my website and the number 1 reason they mention is the fact that the pictures on my website are too big.

I have changed the jpg quality already from 100% to 90% and regenerated the thumbnails.
This gave a slightly better score in PageSpeed but still it is advising me to further reduce the size of the images.

Before I lower the jpg quality further, I’m seeking for your advice.
What is impacted by the jpg quality setting?
    – only thumbnails
    – the image that is displayed when clicking on one of these thumbnails
    – the image that is displayed after clicking on the image that was displayed with the previous click
    – the original image that was uploaded by the user and that is stored on disk
    – multiple of these

I don’t mind if the thumbnails lose quality but I would like to keep the quality of the original image that was uploaded and the image that is displayed after clicking on the image that is displayed when clicking on the thumbnail.

    Kind regards,
    Dirk Claesen

Sorry for the delay in responding.
Table IV-A19 has always been unticked.
I have been looking for plugins that could have caused lazy load but so far I’m unable to find any.

I also upgraded the theme I’m using (Weaver II Pro) to 2.2.3 as I was still using a 2.1 version but this didn’t seem to make any difference.
Checking the settings of this theme I also couldn’t find anything that would point to lazy loading. On the support website of weaver they recommend some plugins for lazy loading which makes me conclude it is not included in the theme itself.

In a separate mail I will send you all results of Query Monitor as well as all the current WPPA settings of my website.

    Kind regards,
    Dirk

    SELECT: 53
    SHOW: 5
    DESCRIBE: 2
    ALTER: 4
    UPDATE: 6
    DELETE: 1

This looks good; it takes only 1.9235 sec to create the page.

    My real life test says:

    http://photona.org/nl/current-photo/ [HTTP/1.1 200 OK 2064ms]

i.e. that it took 2.064 sec to get the page loaded.

The only possible bottlenecks are now: your servers upload speed, the speed of your internet connection and how busy it is at your hosting provider and your internet provider.

I see no issues in the software. Where is it hosted?

My site is hosted at one.com. I use the starter version of 1.5 € per month.

At this time the performance is good indeed as I have limited the slideshow page size to 10.

But now I can only browse through 10 pictures when using the filmstrip.
If I can keep the current speed and still have to possibility to browse through all pictures using the filmstrip, I would be more than happy.

    Kind regards,
    Dirk
