Support » Plugin: Seriously Simple Podcasting » Slow loading time

  • The load time for our website is really slow due to this plugin after having recently gone from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7.0 after WordPress asked me to upgrade.

Is an even newer version of PHP better for this plugin or not? I don’t want to switch plugins since this one really works well for us and has served us loyally for over a year now.

    Thank you in advance

Generally yes the newest versions of PHP are faster than the previous versions. There’s also a lot that goes into page load time on a site. Things like caching, deferred javascript loading, service optimized images, etc. Is there something about an SSP update that you think is contributing to the load times on your site specifically?

Sorry for the late answer, but the only thing I could find that was impacting the load time was this plugin. As soon as I disabled it everything loaded in a second.

Again, it’s a damn shame because I find the plugin to be my favorite when it comes to posting my podcast.

Hi @swedish_soul what player are you using on your site? The HTML5 player may load slower than the compact player.

    Hi @swedish_soul

We actively test out our plugin releases on sites running PHP 7.x (currently WordPress recommends PHP 7.3 or higher) and we’re not currently experiencing any load time related issues to the plugin running on a version of PHP 7. However as @podcastmotor has pointed out, there could be other factors at play here.

Does your web host offer a staging (or test) version of your site? That way you could install and activate the plugin on the staging site, and share the URL with us, so that we can help pinpoint where the speed issues are.

Did we ever solve this. I have this issue. Any page that displays the SSP plugin loads slow. Deactivate the plugin and everything runs fine.

How much of a difference are you seeing in the load time? Also which of our players are you using on your site? We’d expect a slightly longer load time with the player involved as it’s more components to load on the page, but shouldn’t be noticeable at all. If you have a link we could check out that’d be great @n0tja
