So from what I can tell, the WooCommerce plugin has gone out to update itself and in order to update deletes itself? Then failing the update (I’m using IIS, folder permissions??) leaves the woocommerce directory practically empty, all the other related plugins then fail leaving errors all over the place, search function no longer works, and the entire shop disappears.

I think it should be a simple fix, but 10/10 for drama and heart palpitations.

    Eeek! Terrifying

So I downloaded the woocommerce plugin manually but find I can’t activate it, nor can I disable any of the other woocommerce related plugins. Will keep trying alternatives or ways I can think of around this…

Got it back up and running but every product description is blank – terrific.

Is it usual for people who install woocommerce to experience practically every imaginable problem within days of installing this plugin? At least I’ve found out now rather than a month down the line…

So, typed in a NEW product description, clicked Update (which took ages) and it’s STILL blank. Can’t be seen in either the front or back end. Search feature still doesn’t work, nor do any products show.

This plugin has been around for a long time and we’re currently on version 7.5.0. Does anyone have an excuse as to why this plugin is still so flaky after such a long time? I suspect there are some deep seated bugs that go back a long time (over 8 years from some of the posts on Google)

I’m not sure whether to stick with it, or abandon ship and go with shopify, it’s only been a few days for me and I’ve witnessed the most terrifying, flaky, bug ridden, shop destroying activity.

My recommendation has gone from 5 stars down to 2, and possibly zero depending if I can recover from the damage.

    Rather disappointed.

    Hello @muttleydosomething,

I’m so sorry to hear this, I can imagine how frustrated you are.

WooCommerce has more than 5 million installations and I can assure you that’s not something that happens often, it’s most likely related to WordPress installation.

That’s why we recommend making a backup before any major changes to your site including an update in case things go wrong.

Your host might be storing backups of your site automatically, I recommend getting in touch with them and asking if they can get your site back to you before you update the plugin.

Got it back up and running but every product description is blank – terrific.

I assume something is wrong with the database, you can try regenerating the database tables from WooCommerce > Status > Tools.

If that’s not helpful then please attach your system status report. You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.  Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

It’s also worth checking if there are any fatal error logs from WooCommerce > Status > Logs and choosing from the drop-down menu the fatal-errors.log option.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks for the reply, after looking further into it I’ve come to understand there are many issues people are experiencing using IIS as a server so I’ve zapped that one and gone with Apache 2.

Since then there are no issues.

    Thanks for your time
