Slideshow plugin "add slide" interface showing blank

I am talking about the slideshow plugin titled “slideshow” and gets installed in this folder in plugins: “slideshow-jquery-image-gallery”

this has been working fine for some time, but for no apparent reason recently, the interface that lets you add a new slide is showing mostly just a blank box with a “select” button in lower right.

you CAN drag images into that box and have the image be added as a slide to the slideshow; however, you can no longer see the tab for adding a slide from the “media library” like before. I am pretty sure this plugin has not been updated in a while and it is currently up to date.

anyone else have this problem? if so, I would be extremely grateful if you can pass on any tips.
